St. Stanislaus Kostka

Update: The school was demolished shortly after these photographs. The church successfully defended itself from the Archdiocese in court and is now independent. Revised commentary written in October 2018 and again in July of 2020.

Having survived the demolition of Pruitt-Igoe, St. Stanislaus Kostka is now an independent church practicing Roman Catholic traditions.

The church continues, even though the neighborhood that originally provided it with parishioners has now been demolished twice in the Twentieth Century.

The church still hosts many Polish festivals throughout the year. There was once a dome over the crossing that has since been removed.

The school building was being gutted when I took these pictures in preparation for its demolition.
