There is no demand for autocentric strip malls in North St. Louis. If I am wrong, then why is this strip mall still sitting empty two years after being built? Oh alright, there is now finally one store that’s moved in. I took this picture close to dinnertime on a mild weather day. This is what replaced the amazing Charles H. Duncker Mansion.
“why is this strip mall still sitting empty two years after being built”
In a word? Crime.
But North STL has been plagued with crime for 50 years. Why would a developer even build this in the first place?
Probably just pocketing the tax credits they receive. Your hard earned and forfeited tax dollars at work. I bet the developer still makes a profit even if they sit vacant.
That is an excellent theory.
