I’ve discussed this in the past, but it’s worth revisiting that Grand Center, before it was the theater district of St. Louis, was a wealthy neighborhood of stately mansions, anchored by the now vanished Vandeventer Place.
Amidst the parking lots, a carriage stepping stone, or a vacant lot sits empty, reminding us that there was a house there once.
But besides the acres of empty parking lots, and rubble strewn lots, a few gems survive, which I’ll look at today and the next two days.
This eclectic Richardsonian Romanesque house sits in splendid isolation, clinging to life.
