The Beauty of Dutchtown, 73: 3747 Dunnica Avenue

Built in 1931, this apartment building on the northwest corner of Dunnica and South Spring avenues is one of those buildings that defies easy description.

It is an eclectic mix of styles, but it also has a certain Spanish feel to it. This is one of those buildings that I feel shows the influence of Hollywood–remember, the Holly Hills neighborhood here in St. Louis was named after that famous California town so it’s not impossible.

But that Baroque curve mixed with the pinnacles and the Gothic pointed arch reminds me of the Southwestern United States.

And thankfully on some of these buildings the front doors and balconies survive.
