The Northernmost Houses in St. Louis

The Grove, McKinley Heights, St. Louis Place, Riverview 089

The City of St. Louis, over a century ago, kept a little “tail” of St. Louis County that stretches way up north, encompassing the city’s all-important Bissell Point water intake plants. But the odd part: there are houses up this way as well, overlooking the river. Back from the bluffs, on the former grounds of the Chain of Rocks Amusement Park, are these St. Louis Housing Authority houses. Who lives here? What is it like living up here? And do they know they hold the honor being the furthest north citizens of the august city of St. Louis?

There is also an older brick home from the 1890’s behind the public housing. It’s abandoned and I cannot find any history on it. Do you have any further history of the land up here? It’s my understanding that the original Glasgow estate was lost in a fire around 1910.

That is a good question; I do not know. Anyone else who lived in the neighborhood who can help?
