The Long Lost Bodemann’s Grove

Richard Henry Fuhrmann, Bodemann’s Grove Near Arsenal and Gravois Road, Lithograph, Missouri History Museum, P0764-00718-4a.

Bodemann’s Grove was another country respite out Gravois Road, along with the old Schiller’s and Bamberger’s groves. While its address was listed as the southeast corner of Grand and Wyoming, it was actually at the northeast corner. The street grid was eliminated and Bough Street, seen below disappeared in the giant Tower Grove Heights Addition. No trace of the lake, which might have been a remnant of karst topography, was left by 1903. Note the Greek Revival similarity of the presumed Bodemann Mansion to Beauvais Manor further north on Grand.
