Chesterfield, as I knew it as a boy of five years to 10 was but a post office, a hardware and feed store and a saloon across the street.
On Saturdays the family would go there so that Dad could collect the mail, as RFD (Rural Free Delivery) wasn’t yet working in Chesterfield. I don’t recall exactly where that street was. It may be turned into a subdivision by now. Our home along Olive is not a freeway interchange. Even the family cemetary next door seems to have been bulldozed for the highway.
I suppose all the rubble I see is building materials. Yet I cannot but wonder if there isn’t some souvenir to put on a mantle or hide away in a drawer. It is hard for me to imagine an entire mall being removed. Thanks, Chris. My memories are restored.

Chesterfield Mall will always be special to me, my wife and our dear friends. It was the highlight of the year to go shopping, particularly at Christmas. This was in the day that calling a family member to ask about gift ideas, Chesterfield was considered a toll call. They can tear it down, but they cannot tear the memories down; forever fixed in our spirits.
