Third Fire at St. Augustine’s

A St. Louis Patina correspondent captured firefighters battling the towering inferno that broke out in the evening of March 18th, devastating St. Augustine’s. At this point, I reluctantly have to admit that it needs to be torn down in the interest of public safety. I think it’s probably arson. What else is there to say at this point.

Beyond sad. This should have been priority #1 for the millions that city hall wants to spend on the north side…

Just saw it on channel 4…looks like the steeple and the rest of the building is leaning…pretty sure you were in the picture with a camera…

Yes, I was interviewed for the story on the 6:00 PM news. I’ll post a link when it’s up.

This makes me sick. I discovered this church in August 2017 while on the way to Bellefontaine Cemetery. It’s my favorite place in StL to photograph and I have visited several times with 2022 being the most recent. I hoped it would be restored one day, but it’s too late now.

Yeah, it would require someone with a huge amount of money intervening in the next month to save it, which is just not going to happen.

I too, have seen the closed St. Augustine many times when I lived in St. Louis. But, the socio-demographic had changed some 40-50 years ago. it is unrealistic that it can be restored, imagine it will be demolished. JPG, Portland, OR
