North Up Blair Avenue, South of St. Louis Avenue, Old North, March 2024

I’ve decided to make “North Up Blair Avenue,” my periodic journey up that street through the inner Northside neighborhoods a tag. I also decided to take a much more detailed look, and start further south in the Old North neighborhood, around Howard Street.

There is a lot of vacant land, including where the German Singing Society once stood; you can see the walls of St. Liborius off in the distance, as well.

Many of the houses are Greek Revival, or Federalist as some people call them, and there is not a lot of abandonment.

If you need one of the more extreme example of a house left high and dry after street grading, this house might be it! I also really love this row of buildings that have survived, below.

The building below has received a major front facade rebuild.

I had just photographed the houses below in the winter of 2022; not much has changed.
