Urban Big Box Target, Downtown, Seattle

I’ll be darned!  The city of Seattle didn’t allow Target to demolish an entire city block for a parking lot surrounding a one story big box Target.

The parking garage (which is barely needed due to the large amount of foot traffic on the streets around the store) is tucked into the basement, and the street frontage occupied by the entrance is minimal.

It’s pretty much a regular Target inside, though it is spread out over three floors, with the middle floor at street level.

A cart escalator allows for the easy movement of shoppers and their carts between the different floors.

I went to one just like this in the Bronx. Nice to see that the big box model can actually work in an urban setting. Filling our cities and shopping areas with acres of pavement is entirely unnecessary and not the least bit desirable.
