Due to an eagle-eyed reader, I learned recently that the historic freedmen’s settlement of Westland Acres recently sold for a substantial amount of money. Inhabited by the descendants of freed slaves for generations, I suspect that property tax pressures finally forced the sale of the huge swath of land lying on the border of Wildwood and Chesterfield. The church above, and the cemetery below, are two icons of this historic community. The neatly kept houses that line Church Road are where many of the original family still live. I hope they received a good deal, and are happy with the sale.
