A Blog detailing the beauty of St. Louis architecture and the buildup of residue-or character-that accumulates over the course of time.

Thank you for featuring Greystone Lodge. I researched Thomas D. Yeats for my book Oakland: A History of the People and Their Homes about 15 years ago. Yeats bought the 160 acre farm from Archibald Gamble in March, 1827. The deed mentions “buildings and improvements” on the property so there may have been a log cabin or an early section of the lodge. Yeats was one of the early landowners in what is now Glendale and tiny Oakland. He lived at Greystone and bought land for his mother in the Glendale/Oakland area in 1831. She and her younger children lived in the house at 9 Hill Drive in Glendale (c. 1832). Yeats and other relatives were charter members of Des Peres Presbyterian Church, 2255 N. Geyer Rd. He is buried in the church graveyard.
That’s so cool! I’ll have to check out that book.
