Botanical Avenue

I don’t photograph the Shaw neighborhood very often (amazingly, the last post is from December of 2016), because most of the east-west streets are blocked off, and my methodology of documenting areas of the city start by happening across interesting streets in my car, and then I return on foot.

The house below was owned by a member of the Griesedieck brewing family.

I suspect the house next door, also in the Romanesque Revival style, the favorite of wealthy German industrialists, might have also been owned by the family. Over in Compton Heights, that was the style of house of another member of the family, as well.

There are some houses with side yards as well, which are common in the city; not every last piece of open land had a house at one time.
