The Grove and the Gibson Heights/Forest Park South neighborhoods have so much intact that it’s future is looking very promising. Last Drinks & Mortar at Atomic Cowboy will show anyone who has not been to the Grove what potential it really has.
Strategic planning by the Forest Park Southeast Housing Corporation led to the neighborhood’s decision to seek National Register historic district status for the area from Manchester north.The National Register historic district designation led to lots of private investment in the neighborhood.The Washington University Medical Center Redevelopment Corporation partnered in the effort to get some of the first projects of scale completed.Now the region and private investors are taking notice. The neighborhood’s revitalization is well underway.
Just a quick note to say how completely amazing your blog is. I stumbled upon it while researching Renaissance Revival architecture … and have been reading for hours. Wonderful photos … and I love that I can enlarge them to study details. BRAVO!
Thanks for the photos. I used to live in the apartment above Sweetie Pie’s in one of your photos. Living in the Grove was so much fun.I want you to go up to the Baden Business District and take some photos. I’ve been through several times but have not stopped and gotten out to take photos. And since I’m in New Orleans and will be until maybe even as late as July, I can’t do it myself.I want to do a blog post about Baden, but I need some photos! Help me (us) out, will you? 😀

I grew up in the Grove in the 50s. Sweetie Pies was Carp’s, a clothing store. Tower Grove Music was across Tower Grove with Blitz’s Tavern & 905 liquor store on the other corners. My mom bought dresses at Melroys & it’s amazing the sign still exists. It was a very busy area packed with small businesses. My family lived in that neighborhood over 120 years. Glad to see it’s coming back to life.
