I walked down this stretch of Newhouse Avenue back in January of 2018 so after looking at the damage at the old Friedens Sunday School Hall, I thought I would take a look at how the block was doing.

There had been continued abandonment and deterioration.

The building below hasn’t seemed to have changed at all, however.

It’s a nice block, though, it how it shows the evolution of four-families over the decades, from the 1880s to the Twentieth Century.

And the evolution in the Second Empire from wood cornices to brick cornices.

Also, many of these Second Empire houses and apartment buildings start to have round arches that give the appearance of having the influence of the Romanesque Revival.

Many homeowners have taken advantage of vacant lots to expand their yards, as this house below demonstrates.

Finally, we make it to Eleventh Street where the roar of the interstate rears its obvious head of lowered quality of life.
