Demoliton, Cahokia Power Plant

I realized the smokestacks of the old Cahokia Power Plant are being demolished. Judging from the care in which the demolition is occurring, I suspect that the building below the stacks is being preserved and continuing in its use as a bulk transfer station, primarily for coal. But nonetheless, an iconic view from St. Louis across the river is ending, much like when the four smokestacks of a power plant on the East River, captured in so many works of art, were demolished in New York back several years ago

I drove across the Poplar Street Bridge today for the first time in a long time and noticed the missing stacks.my dad worked there from the early 50s until 1966 or 1967, when he transferred to Portage des Sioux. While at work he watched them put the last piece of the Arch into place. I will miss seeing those stacks when I’m back in the area.
