New Masonic Temple, Redeveloped

I never thought I’d see it, but the New Masonic Temple on Lindell has been successfully redeveloped into apartments, known as the B on Lindell.

Not surprisingly, due to its massive size, its interior had never been completed, so the recent renovation was probably working with blank space in much of the building.

It’s still an incredible building, and there were only some slight modifications to the exterior with the addition of some balconies. It was necessary, in my opinion, as the building was just not really practical for other uses without more fenestration.

But the renovation was sensitive, and the building still maintains its appearance from the street that its original architects, Albert Groves and Thomas Crane Young, intended in 1926.

The Masonic Temple on Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles, built around 1960 and about the same size has also been “dormant” for decades. Some in the City called for it being used to house the homeless, but that never came to fruition. It was used as a museum for 2-3 years.

Glad to see this handsome building has been repurposed as it has always been one of my favorites and is colossal in scale.
I believe there is an impressive auditorium in this building also. It would be interesting to know if that paprt of the interior is still intact and what it is used for. Thanks for posting an update on this building.
