To the west of Morgan Ford Road but north of the industrial area and the train tracks there is a pocket of houses, many of which are wood frame and quite old.

Again, like yesterday, I suspect that these are exurban houses built when this area was way out west and involved in the Russell and Parker clay mining business and later brick making industry.

But then later, it began to be surrounded by the city, and more “standard” Tower Grove South housing stock was built.

But the small housing is typical of an area where the owners were blue collar and not the more prominent streets of the Tower Grove Heights subdivision over by Grand Boulevard.

I get a kick out of how these old wood frame houses are being rehabbed and going for big bucks nowadays. Someone put the vinyl siding on too tight!

Some of these blocks, like the dead end of Portis Avenue, are quaint and have some really old hipped roof two story houses such as the yellow one below.
