Avenue G, Part Two, Fort Madison, Iowa

We make it back down to Avenue G where we again see more Italianate storefronts ling the thoroughfare.

And as we have seen before in places such as Macon, Missouri, a Modernist bank building has been inserted into the street wall.

There are some more interesting buildings, such as this bank above and below.

But then we get to this storefront, and we see something very exciting!

This building was clearly a local depot or sales office for the Lemp Brewery, as the large shield on the facade indicates.

It’s been heavily altered over the years, and I think that the logo was even covered over at one point, but it looks to be under renovation to some degree right now.

Some interesting buildings, especially the one with the Lemp piece, but that is one dead looking downtown.

In fairness we visited on a Saturday and there were more occupied storefronts than may be readily apparent.

It is a shame that the Lemp brewery complex is just sitting there rotting away. Most cities would love to have a place like that to develop! Just another STL building tragedy
