Update: I went back and looked at some of the house on Sidney Street in May of 2021. The houses above are on Arsenal Street across from the park.
Invented, or at least popularized by the great 17th Century French architect François Mansart, the mansard roofs of inner neighborhoods represent some of the oldest remaining houses in the city.
The roof style was a way to lower real estate taxes because rooms above the roof line were not counted.
The house with mansard roof at the corner by the stop sign was my Grandparents home from oh…maybe early 1900s through late 50s or early 60s. I wish I could send an old photo here so you could see it back in the 50s when my Grandpa took a photo after it got a new paint job. They would be astounded at how much that house is worth today. I love your blog. EXCELLENT. -Joan
Thanks, that would be great!
