The Carew Tower cuts a thin profile in the skyline of Cincinnati, not far from the Union Central Tower. It was named after the department store that was demolished to build the Art-Deco building in 1931.

Designed by Walter William Ahlschlager, a Chicago architect, and William Adams Delano and Chester Holmes Aldrich of New York, the building was the tallest skyscraper in Cincinnati for eighty years.

Just like in New York, the building “steps back,” just like required by sunlight laws in New York City. I do not know if such laws existed in Cincinnati.

The ornament is simple, and the buff brick is perhaps unique compared to the other tall buildings in the downtown area.

If you know or can determine, is the buff brick from St Louis?
Great question, Mark. I do not know.
