Centenary Methodist Church

Update: I wrote a more extensive article about this church at St. Louis Magazine. The wooden spire was destroyed by high winds the second weekend in July of 2021.

Surrounded by Modernist apartment towers, the church is all that remains of what was once one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. Originally known as the Fourth Street Methodist Church, the congregation was located at 4th and Washington streets, having been founded in 1839.

    Rock-solid and beautifully maintained!

Terrible, the street department was using a front end loader to scoop the steeple in to a dump truck , seems like they could have saved at least a little of it…

I heard the horrible news when I was out of town! Did you happen to get any pictures you could share?
