Moving into what I call the auditorium, for lack of a better term for the theater’s main room for viewing movies, musicals or music, we see more of the elaborate architecture.

A Blog detailing the beauty of St. Louis architecture and the buildup of residue-or character-that accumulates over the course of time.
I once heard people would see several shows and stay all day into evening. An area was called the “vomitorium” … truth or fiction?
I love the rumor stories. Frederick Medler told me that during the rehab of the building they found the proscenium curtain rolled up in a garage in west county. He also told me a story about the door to the chandelier. I think it was missing and a new had to made? I love seeing photos from Mary Strauss’s collection of the rehabbing, especially the ones taken in the crawl space in the ceiling above the auditorium.
The Arthur Bros. theatre chain kept it in repair and carefully cherished it until it closed . After a vacant period, Leon and Mary Strauss bought it with some others and they proceeded with very careful restoration work as well as activated bookings for live performances . The Wurlitzer 36 rank Crawford Special organ is well serviced and in ts’ original cases . A thing to behold and cherish for St. Louis.
