I love this building’s transformation over the years. What was clearly a four-family flat at some point received a baby-blue coat of paint, and then received a front staircase in what looks like the 1970s. Glass-block windows were installed at some point, and the four front doors were ripped out at some point and replaced with a front with a single door.

My dad moved to 2703A Shenandoah in 1927 with his family. They moved from a 2-family cold water flat at 18th and Lami to the 4-family flat on Shenandoah. He said he remembers this being the first home he lived in where it had hot water and a bathroom WITH a tub! Previously, on 18th St., the latrines were in the backyard. He said he recalls that there was a lumberyard across the street when they first moved to 2703 Shenandoah, and it was razed in order for ball fields to be built on that plot of land; along with a playground. He said it was the best thing that could have happened for them back then because times were so difficult. He attended St Frances de Sales grade school and then went to McKinley High. Thanks for this information on this building.
