Continuing down Garfield Avenue past some ruins, I approached the JeffVanderLou neighborhood and finished my journey down the Cote Brilliante Avenue axis.

I reached Vandeventer Avenue, and crossed over, meandering a bit and actually missing the block of Cote Brilliante where Star Packing Company is located.

But finally, after crossing Prairie Avenue, I was back on Cote Brilliante Avenue for the final leg my trip.

There is an interesting mix of houses and surprises.

This one was perhaps the big surprise, and I wonder if it originally had a second floor that was lost, and this is the result of its demolition.

We’ll end with this lone survivor, now surrounded by later in-fill. If Cote Brilliante Avenue is any indication, there are many challenges to the built environment and also our neighborhoods on the North Side. People are leaving and in great numbers, and houses are being left vacant in large numbers. What will the future hold? I worry.
