Demolition of Those Apartment Buildings, The Grove

So, let me get this straight–we spent years fighting Lux Living from demolishing the buildings at Oakland and Kingshighway, only to sell the properties to another developer and proceed to demolish them, loudly pronouncing that they were now structurally unstable (they weren’t)? And on top of it, now they’re seeking a twenty year tax abatement in one of the hottest neighborhoods in the City! I’ll be a senior citizen when it expires! I give up on the Grove. It’s full of increasingly mediocre, matchstick construction that already looks terrible new and I can only imagine how bad it will look in twenty years (or less). I’m not going to waste any more time on this neighborhood.

It’s the same people who travel to other countries and take photos of the beautiful old buildings and cafes and historic sites that come home to their investment portfolio and congratulate themselves for being so clever, telling themselves that if they don’t do it somebody else will. Sadly that’s true because the systems is geared that way.

I completely agree. Idiots in charge once again.

More cookie cutter apartments incoming. It’s crazy that the sucess of this neighbrhood actaully ruins a lot of the good things about it. There are so many of these expensiev apartments with no character there. We don’t need more.

    Can’t argue with you

Despite the righteous anger you feel about this wanton harm, please don’t’ stop chronicling The Grove. It may seem to you that your work goes unrewarded, but, in years to come, these photographic essays of yours will become history to those waiting to discover St Louis’ past; no matter how dreadful and despicable. Google Earth can likely be bought off. The so-called developers (of greed), will not want their works recorded. And I believe you are not the only one who can do this, but the best one.

Thank you for ALL your hard work.

    Probably don’t give a hoot….

Yes, it’s time to throw up the pre-packaged and densely packed apartments that seem to come out of the same design factory. These developments can’t possibly be designed by real architects. They are most probably the work of uninspired engineer hacks who get paid by the hour. This is a phenomenon that’s happening all over the country as greedy developers have concluded that the younger generations will most likely never be able to afford a single family home, and they, unfortunately, may be right. These developments often cause undue congestion and aesthetically they are the blight of the present and the tear downs of the not too distant future.
