Downtown St. Joseph is quite nice, with minimal amount of land turned over to pointless parking lots. There are many buildings being renovated, and there are many interesting businesses.

There is this huge mural on the side of a wall where there is a parking lot.

If there is cause for concern is that there are many empty storefronts in renovated buildings, but that is perhaps a problem facing American cities everywhere.

There’s a good mix of small storefronts with larger bank and skyscrapers.

These buildings were under renovation as we walked by.

The hilliness of the city becomes apparent on the edge of downtown as the grade changes by a whole story.

There are some interesting apartments, as well.

Then there’s this abandoned building, which amazes me since it could easily be renovated in such a desirable part of town.

The YMCA has a nice building still downtown.

Below is the Zion United Church of Christ.

Christ Episcopal Church sits among a group of other very old buildings.

These two buildings are even distinguished by a 1/2 in their addresses.

Below are the office and school for the church.

The church itself is a typical German Gothic Revival in style.

There are still other buildings that have businesses active in the first floor.
