East Lake United Methodist and Other Churches, Birmingham, Alabama

I’ll have to admit when we first spotted East Lake United Methodist Church, I had assumed it was Roman Catholic.

But it’s not, and has never been! It traces its roots back 136 years, and a couple other buildings, before this giant Italian Romanesque Revival powerhouse was built.

The campanile is attached to the church, as some are in Italy, though most are separate structures.

Below is this interesting centrally planned church, which is East Birmingham Baptist.

A public school is next door.

Here’s another church we spotted.

Interesting choice of city. Having moved with my job from St Louis area to North Alabama (near Huntsville AL back in 1997, About 1800 Govt and at least as many Contrasctors moved at that time. Birmingham was until the 2020 census larger than Huntsville. Old Steel manufacturing area. in 2020, Huntsville area becasme largest in Alabama. As long as you in Alabama, drive around up here. mixture of old new and repurposed Architecture ,
