Eden Seminary, Webster Groves

Update: See the original location of this seminary in Marthasville from the winter of 2016 and again from the spring of 2021.

Eden Seminary, in Webster Groves features a beautiful, if standard English Gothic Revival main building, but I’m more intrigued by the library built in the lawn in front of the older academic hall.

The massing of this strange, Modernist building seems to be the same as some traditional depictions of the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem. The tops of the two towers remind me of early horned altars in the Holy Land.

Take a look for yourself here, and see if there’s a correlation. It would make sense, considering it’s a seminary’s library. These ornaments below remind me of menorahs, which decorated the Great Temple, which you can see in the Arch of Titus, which depicts the spoils from the Second Temple.
