The Fairgrounds neighborhood is isolated by closed streets and Fairground Park on the south, but it is an interesting, eclectic neighborhood, architecturally.
I photographed Lee Avenue in November of 2015 and December of 2019. I returned in the summer of 2023.
It shows evidence of having been built up over a very long time, and some houses can already be seen in the 1875 Compton and Dry Pictorial St. Louis.
A rare six-family apartment building looks to still be in good condition, though the third floor seems to be blocked off in the middle.
And then there’s this gem, a bowling alley. I wonder if anyone remembers bowling here in the past.
