Update: The church was heavily damaged, with the tower destroyed, by the tornado in the afternoon of May 16, 2025. One member of the congregation was killed in the tower’s collapse, and two others were injured. The ruins were later demolished.
Today owned by the Centennial Christian Church, this magnificent edifice was originally built as the Fountain Park Congregational Church, designed by Grable, Weber and Groves in 1895.
Like many other Congregational churches, it has strong Romanesque Revival roots, but perhaps most strikingly its difference is its lofty tower, which reminds me of an Italian campanile.
