We made it back to Fort DeChartres, which is mostly a restoration. It was cloudy the last time, so it was much sunnier this time.
It’s so interesting to see such European fortifications in the middle of America, but it points to the importance the Mississippi Valley was to the French Empire in the 18th Century.

This is right up my ally of interest. Where is this located at? I would love to make this a day trip.
It’s located down in Prairie de Rocher, Illinois–about an hour and a half from St. Louis. Other cool French colonial stuff to see in the vicinity of the fort.
