I went back by the Lansdowne Towers the second weekend of November to see how the demolition of the three buildings were going. The two southernmost towers were completely annihilated, and the northernmost one, which you can see on the left above, was clearly vacant. I do not know if it is still being demolished.
The fourth tower, the Rukavina Building, is still occupied. What the heck is with that name? It’s a southern Slavic surname. Did it at one point have significance to East St. Louis history?
I love this house below, which sits just to the west of the towers. I would like to ask the owner of the house what they think of all this going on across the street, but I have not seen them outside to ask.
