Going to the North Side, other surprises await the visitor on the one block of Helen Street in the St. Louis Place neighborhood.
The sturdy block of Second Empire houses sits in what is otherwise a neighborhood that is more famous for its desolation than for its stability. The burned out HUD houses need to go; there is far too much good on this block for them to stay around forever.
A half block away from the northern terminus of the street sits this meticulously restored house, with a very Modern addition on the back. St. Louis Place may be suffering, but it certainly has not died.
