Our last street we’ll be looking at in the old Staniford Addition is Hickory Street, which was formerly named Elizabeth Street. To the north, what is north LaSalle Street and Florist Row was Virginia Street, another woman’s name (note back on the Compton and Dry it was just a raised right of way in 1876). There was also a short now-non-extant Josephine Street, as well.

But again, we see some fascinating survivors that made it through urban renewal, and poorly documented urban renewal, at that.

We see a Second Empire house pop up, now, too.

I was never able to determine who Staniford was, but I came empty handed. There was not even anyone with that name buried in St. Louis City or County.

Maybe Staniford was a portmanteau similar to Delmar?
Hello Chris. Located an advertisement for the sale of lots in Staniford’s Addition. St. Louis Republic May 22, 1870 pg 2. Col. Thomas Stanford owned the property.
