I said this somewhere else in the 5,800+ posts I’ve written for this site, but in so many words, Lafayette Square is certainly special due to its beautiful houses ringing the park; however, we should not forget all the other exceptional homes that line the side streets of this wonderful neighborhoods.

There is an exceptional mix of Italianate and Second Empire houses.

We also see some “true” row houses, as I call them, which have party walls and are not simply separated by three to six feet, as most surviving houses east of Grand are.

You can also see the transition from Greek Revival on the left to later Victorian Period styles on the right. It is not an abrupt changeover.

Crossing over Mississippi Avenue and now north of Benton Place, there are still some nice houses but they are “down the hill” from that famous private street.
