Here are more photographs from the vault. This is south of Salisbury Street in Hyde Park, I can tell. Things have gotten better with the filling in of vacant lots, but there have also been demolitions.

A Blog detailing the beauty of St. Louis architecture and the buildup of residue-or character-that accumulates over the course of time.
The Krey packing plant was developed in an entire city block + across form Hyde Park in a past era . and some homes were re-purposed as offices . The main building I believe is still standing as a motor rebuilding operation. As a packing plant , the neighbors could hear the bleating of the condemned beasts awaiting slaughter in the marshaling yard. Charm takes many forms .
Yes, I’ve photographed it many times over the years!

That old house that was swallowed up by the plant is partially visible in one of the photos.
Did you grow up nearby?
I’ve always been fascinated by the history of the Krey packing plant and how it shaped the area. It’s interesting that some of the original homes were repurposed as offices. I can’t imagine what it must’ve been like to live near the packing plant with all the noise and the scent of the nearby operations.
