Due to a large parking lot that demolished a large number of houses, the block of Iowa Avenue north of Cherokee Street is relatively short. There is this interesting office building, which pops up in the middle of the block.

Then there is a row of houses with the last tinges of Romanesque Revival style in their windows, most likely built in the 1890s.

What’s depressing is the sheer amount of sloppy rehabbing such as you can see below. Note the small windows and off the bottom shelf doors in this otherwise beautiful four-family.

Then we get to Utah Street.

I agree with you on the sloppy rehabbing aspect. I was thinking the same thing at first glance. Just paint / stain the original doors & reapply weatherstripping for a much better end result. The bldg in the photo below the office bldg photo appears to have retained its original doors and it compliments the rest of the bldg nicely -as it was intended!
My first house was built in 1910, and luckily still had the beautiful original front door with transom / sidelights. But, the exterior was covered in peeling paint and front door was missing the glass. The previous hoosiers (homeowners) screwed plexiglass to the inside of the door instead of replacing glass! I received a bid of 5K to have it restored, but I ended up restoring it myself. I stripped, sanded, stained, varnished, and replaced everything with beveled glass. It wasn’t easy, but much cheaper, and the end product was well worth the effort!
