
I’ve briefly looked at this stretch of McNair Avenue in Benton Park before, but it was the east side of the street and only with a few photos.

This time we’ll look at McNair north of Pestalozzi to Lynch Street on the west side, where there is a wealth of beautiful houses fitting for the neighborhood, which is Greek Revival and Second Empire, but surprisingly no Italianate houses.

Perhaps what is so beautiful about the street wall is the undulating rhythm of the houses, from three story Second Empire, to one-and-a-half Greek Revival to two story Second Empire again, as you see below.



Then there is an almost Queen Anne style house, below.


And a relic of the neighborhood’s rural and suburban past is preserved in this corner lot, with this small house with an expanded dormer when we reach Lynch Street.
