
I thought it was time to get back to Webster Groves, considering that the last post I made on the city was in May of 2013(!) and there are a grand total of nine for the historic suburb.

We’ll start by looking at the Monday Club at 37 S. Maple Avenue, which was built around 1920 on land donated by William Yaeger in 1911. It is the oldest of such women’s clubs in St. Louis that focus on lectures about art, literature and other subjects, and its founding dates to 1887.

I then headed through the streets and looked at some other late Nineteenth Century houses that have received some recent paint jobs.

Next up is the historic Edward Jackson House, built in 1868 at 133 Gray Avenue. The Jacksons were from New England.

It’s an interesting example of early Italianate architecture, with some heavy decorative that was probably hand carved and painted a much brighter paint scheme originally.

The Yeagers were from Germany. Was this a social club? Can you tell me more about them?
