The former Eden Seminary and then the old Normandy High School was in the process of being torn down in 1953 when it was captured in the photograph above. It had used the old seminary build since 1923.

The new Normandy High School, designed by William B. Ittner, opened later in the 1920s, was constructed in what could best be described as Tudor Revival; it is difficult to photograph as it’s received multiple additions and it’s built right up to the sidewalk line.

There is some discrepancy about when the old Eden building was torn down; some sources say 1959, but the photograph above is labeled 1953. Regardless, the Ittner gymnasium was also demolished for Viking Hall seen below, which is mostly below grade.

Designed by the firm of Willian B. Ittner, the successor of the famous architect, Viking Hall opened in 1969, at a cost of over a million dollars.

.It is a multi-purpose space, and can seat 3,000 people.
