North of Snake Alley, Burlington, Iowa

At the top of Snake Alley, and south of where a U.S. Highway cuts through and crosses the Mississippi River is a highly intact and beautiful neighborhood.

I think Iowa has some of the most stunning examples of the Queen Anne Style, and there are many meticulously restored houses throughout the state.

This particular house is huge!

There are also earlier Italianate houses, as well.

There are even Renaissance Revival houses, as seen below.

There are some downright massive, hulking churches in the city, as well. Check out this one below, with its unique tower that features a gabled roof.

This large building below is the former Mercy Hospital, converted into residences, a restaurant and other uses.

This was another church we saw in town.
