An elegant and well-preserved street in Hyde Park is North Park Place. There is very little abandonment, and few vacant lots.
The western portion has these interesting duplex houses with side entrances, which is common throughout the city.
Interestingly, the houses are apparently newer when you go east, finishing with these stately houses before the street terminates with the interstate.
As can be seen in the Sanborn map, the only major vacant lots were once part of a large mansion’s property, which was demolished at some point in the last century. Interestingly, unlike another place in Hyde Park, it was not filled with new housing.
I hope you’re saving the incredible two family “flat” at the southeastern corner of the block for tomorrow.
