North Up Compton Part 1, The Quarry Houses

Heading back north up Compton, one discovers a cluster of wood frame houses, just a minute’s walk from the old quarry in Dutchtown. I strongly suspect that these houses were where workers for the quarry lived, far outside of the central city, and built in wood because they were out in the country.

These old houses are less well known, but they are still part of St. Louis’s built environment.
