I revisited the neighborhood in Peoria that I’ve dubbed Northeast Peoria, which are those streets that come out of downtown and have a wide variety of styles and ages of construction.

I chose to view the entire length of Madison Avenue Northeast, starting at Spalding Avenue but really beginning at the giant trench that takes Interstate 74 through the city, cutting downtown off from the northeast regions of the metropolis.

The houses range from the 1890s to more modern structures.

We see the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception below.

What had clearly been a large parcel of land has been converted to an apartment complex. I wonder what was there originally.

The typical working person’s houses such as the ones below are very common.

Then there’s this shingle style church, which is looking good style.

There are apartments scattered throughout the area, and remind me of buildings in Chicago more than St. Louis.

There are also quite large houses, as well, showing the economic integration of the neighborhod originally.

I’m finding the Further Afield very satisfying today. Especially the part about: “more Chicago”.
