There’s this bridge that vaults over Interstate 74 in East Peoria that’s impossible to take a photograph of because you’re on the highway, but I finally found a way to drive over it, and I was treated to a panoramic overlook of the city of Peoria (remember to click on the image above to see it larger).

Above, on the far left you can spot the ethanol plant in the old whiskey distillery buildings as well as the Cedar Bridge over the Illinois River.

Moving up the river, we can see more of Caterpillar works in East Peoria above and the beginning of downtown.

Above you can see the First National Bank with its pyramid roof.

Above you can see the spires of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception and St. Francis Medical Center. Below the river expands out into Lake Peoria.

I lived in Peoria for nine years — college at Bradley University and then my first job. A great experience, and we return to visit friends there every year! Thanks for the wonderful photos that bring back fond memories.
