I didn’t have much time so I snapped a couple of bad photos, but I will return and document more of the demolition of what was once the largest outdoor mall in the world.
A Blog detailing the beauty of St. Louis architecture and the buildup of residue-or character-that accumulates over the course of time.
Oh perfect! I always loved the fact that if you looked hard enough, there were examples of every Sears signage ever on that store.
It is sad that all the major malls, Northwest, Jamestown, Crestwood, Northland RiverRoads and St.Louis Centre have all died and/or been demolished. And with the upcoming closure of downtown Macy”s and the previous demolition of the former southtown Famous Barr, very little is left of our shopping heritage. These were all major shopping destinations 20-30 years ago when I was a kid. I wonder if this fate will befall the Galleria 20 years from now?d
Thank you for snapping that picture of the Sears, I have been meaning to do that for weeks, but only drive past there when I am going home from work, and too tired to rummage around for my camera. That Sears is such a mid century modern gem.
