On one of the quiet, isolated streets of southern Carondelet, I found a row of houses that I had never seen before.

Just off East Steins Street, these houses are very old, probably from the 1860s or 70s. They have no alley and the residents seem to park on concrete parking pads out front.

I’ve looked at this concept of “creeping industry” before back in November of 2012.

Amazingly, these two duplexes seem to still be separate, despite in many places in the city where they have been combined due to their size.

Across the street is a junkyard, for lack of a better term. That is the situation throughout much of Carondelet east of South Broadway, where industry is slowly taking over blocks of historic housing, and history is being lost, sadly.
