Russell Boulevard Between South Compton and Nebraska Avenues

I’ve looked at this stretch of houses before, back in March of 2015, but only cursorily, so I thought I would continue my examination of Russell Boulevard heading east of South Compton Avenue.

It’s a part of Compton Heights, even if it’s not on Longfellow or Hawthorne boulevards, and they are more public than the curving streets nearby.

And maybe they’re not as lavish, but they certainly are stately.

There is a preponderance of the Romanesque Revival, popular with the German executives and businessmen who built most of these houses.

While at this point decorative elements in the 1890s had largely turned to terracotta and brick, there is this nice curved porch on this house.
