Not everything is nice and neat on South 37th Street, however.

We were heading north on the street, and all of the sudden the houses go backwards in style by about a decade or so, with the bungalows more typical of Dutchtown to the east of South Grand Boulevard.

Whoever built these cornices apparently didn’t have very good luck, as most of them have been removed and replaced with brick.

If you look closely, however, note the brick patterns in the front facades; these are transitional houses, moving away from this building form and towards the houses seen yesterday.

Note the multicolored stringer courses below and other placement of bricks throughout the facade. Even the replacement of the cornice with the new bricks is decorative.
